England manager Gareth Southgate said he has chosen the "consistent" Brentford forward Ivan Toney for his squad ahead of the opening Euro 2024 qualification fixtures against Italy and Ukraine later this month.

Toney is the second-highest English goalscorer in the Premier League this season with 16 goals, only behind Tottenham's Harry Kane. However, the 27-year-old is facing a potential ban having accepted that he broke the FA's rules in relation to betting. Of Toney, Southgate said: "The fact is he is playing for his club. He is available for his club. There has not been a trial as yet or any judgment. So I do not know on what basis we would not pick him."
