Journalist Charles Watts has revealed that injured Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey will face a late fitness test to see if he can return in the club’s next game.

What’s the latest on Partey and his Arsenal injury?

The Gunners have been without their key man for the past two Premier League games now as he has been absent with a muscular injury.

Mikel Arteta and co felt his absence when they lost at home to Manchester City but did recover without him to pick up three points away from home in a dramatic 4-2 win against Aston Villa last weekend.

Regardless of that recent victory, Arsenal will no doubt be desperate to have Partey fit and available this Saturday when they take on Leicester City hoping to maintain their spot at the top of the table.

While speaking on his YouTube channel, Watts was able to provide an update on the latest and it sounds as though he’s in with a chance of playing though it’s too early to say just yet.

He explained: “From what I understand, he’s very much working towards trying to be fit for the weekend.

“But it’s something that’s going to be a much later decision, I think, when it comes to whether Thomas Partey will be fit to face Leicester.

“Arsenal continuing to assess him. Like I said, he’s working hard. He’s aiming to try and be fit for this Leicester game. He doesn’t want to be out long, understandably so – but Arsenal aren’t going to take any risks.”

What could Partey’s injury return mean for the Gunners?

When Mohamed Elneny picked up a significant knee injury, even more pressure was put on Partey to stay fit and thankfully Arsenal managed to bring in some alternative depth in January.

Indeed, Jorginho arrived from Chelsea and has since started the past two Premier League games for the Gunners. Without the Italian, the Gunners would be in a real spot of bother having also let squad midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga join Crystal Palace on loan this winter.

If Partey can get himself fit for Leicester, though, it will be a huge boost for Arteta. After all, he has played 18 times in the league this term, losing just one of those games, drawing three, and winning the rest.

With the title on the line, Arsenal need every bit of help they can get so fans will anxiously be waiting to learn of more good news on the midfielder’s fitness as the week goes on.
