Tottenham could be set to witness a mini exodus in the summer with a number of first-team players potentially approaching the end of their stays in north London.

What’s the last on Eric Dier’s future at Spurs?

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Ryan Taylor provided his verdict on the future of Eric Dier and Hugo Lloris.

The Daily Express reporter slammed the pairing, hinting that the duo should be on the chopping block when the next window arrives.

He said: “Ben Davies, good squad player but he should not be a starter. Hugo Lloris, poor, while Eric Dier is just nowhere near the required level for what Spurs are trying to achieve.”

The news comes after a month in which Fabrizio Romano suggested a new contract could be discussed with the England international.

Should Spurs get rid of Dier and Lloris?

If there is one player who Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte need to get rid of this summer it is the error-stricken Lloris.

The captain has been a wonderful servant for the north Londoners throughout the years but it is clear he is now past his peak.

The Frenchman is currently out injured but that is arguably a blessing in disguise for the Lilywhites who are instead now relying on the colossal figure of Fraser Forster.

Lloris has not covered himself in glory at all this term, making four errors leading to a goal and even putting one in the back of his own net.

That is a horrendous record and one that has been coming for a while, with his one error last term undoubtedly acting as a sign of things to come.

A more reliable figure, therefore, is needed by Conte but he could also do with some improved defensive options.

Dier has been a more consistent figure in the England team of late but the fact of the matter is that if Spurs are to go to the next level, they need a figure of higher quality and a better reputation than the ex-Sporting man, particularly if the club are to persist with three central defenders.

Indeed, despite being ranked as Spurs’ best defender this term via Sofascore, he has made a string of errors that have cost the team goals throughout 2022/23.

It was his skewed clearance in the dying embers on Boxing Day against Brentford that led to a corner from which they scored and it was his misplaced header that set Mo Salah free to score against Liverpool back in November.

Moments like that are precisely why Conte needs a more reliable set of feet next to Cristian Romero at the heart of his defence.

Dier cannot be trusted and it is time the £85k-per-week earner is moved aside.
